People get telemarketing calls during the business meetings, emergencies and during traveling. It will become history from next year as TRAI has taken steps to stop unsolicited calls and messages after a consensus to curb this practice doing by various companies in an open house meeting.
A central ‘do not call’ (DNC) registration service will allow consumers to register mobile numbers from where the calls are coming. The service will require a simple three to four digit toll free number with multilingual registration facilities.
TRAI chairperson, Nripendra Misra said that
the issue of penalties and fines in case of non-compliance by service providers and telemarketers was also discussed in the meeting.
Banks are the biggest offenders. Car loans, home loans, personal loans, loans to pay other loans are some unsolicited calls for every category in every bank that is impossible to accommodate.
However, the consumer groups have worked to block this service without success. To go to DNC registries on individual websites to block calls is the sole way. To do this individually for every product is impractical and a central facility does not exist.
TRAI is working hard to make the telephone customers free from the unsolicited calls and most probably, it would come into effect from next year.
