China should not worry about the forming of a ‘brand new’ group including Japan, India, Australia and the US. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan singh responded on China’s fears over the formation of the group that Manmohan termed as a quadrilateral strategic forum. Manmohan Singh said clearly that there was no question of the four countries ganging up against China.

He said during his conversation with media at his residence:

I have told Chinese premier Hu Jintao too that there’s no question of ganging up against China. This group isn’t a military alliance.

Earlier, on the formation of the ‘Group of Four’, the Chinese foreign ministry asked them to be open and inclusive.

Qin Gang, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman, said:

China believes that to enhance mutual trust, expand cooperation for mutual benefit and win-win, be open and inclusive is the global trend.

When the reports asked him to say something on the boundary disputes, Manmohan singh said that the issue is complicated. He said further that he does not have an immediate solution to the problem.

Both the countries are involved in discussion and India believes that Chinese would not backing away from the guiding principles signed in 2005 between both countries.

China had reacted on the formation of the quadrilateral because being the only major Asian power, it kept out of the group. The quadrilateral countries had a meet in Manila, for the first time in May after the ARF meeting. The discussion during the first meeting was related to issues such as disaster management and energy but China had expressed diplomatic objection to all the members of the group.
