Orissa students win World School Rugby championship in UK

Indian sports persons bagged three world championships and one Asian championship in last one month and three world championships in just 10 days. Indian men Hockey team won the Asia cup tournament, Indian cricket team won Twenty20 world cup in cricket, Pankaj Advani retained the world championship in billiards.

Tiger from Madras, Viswanathan Anand won the world championship in chess. Three world championships in just 10 days is really good news for Indian sports.

Here is another news for the sports lover to celebrate because Indian school students have won another world championship in London. A group of young students from a school of Orissa’s tribal belt, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), have won the World School Rugby championship in London.

The KISS students waived the Indian flag in London after beating South Africa to win the Under-14 World School Rugby title.

Without getting much support from the cricket-maniac Indians, the young students from Orissa have won the international trophy. The game, Rugby, is not popular sport in India. The young students belong to one of the most backward areas in India but they have the courage to win and they know how to come up with their best.

They fought the other best school teams from across the world and won. The boys from the tribal belt of Orissa have showed that India can be world-beaters in others sports such as rugby despite of the fact that Rugby is not much popular in India.

Summit Aagrwal, a student of the KISS, said:

We are simply speechless. We have no words to express the feeling. We went there as underdogs and were not considered a team also. South Africa was the strongest but we won.

Orissa Chief Minster Naveen Pattnaik said:

All of us are very proud from the moments we got the news that our children from Orissa and particularly tribal children from our state have done so brilliantly in an international rugby tournament in UK.

All us from our state are very proud and will certainly popularize rugby as a sport even more.

Bikash Murmu, captain of the rugby team, said that in India, the games such as cricket and football are popular but rugby was new to most of the Indians. The fact is that they represent the country and won the international Rugby championship.
