On January 13, Nusli Wadia, GoAir Chairman, had faced tough time at the Dubai airport. During the security check up, an undeclared pistol was found in his baggage. Most surprising part of the incident is that he had escaped security screening at Mumbai airport despite the security at Airports in India is on high alert.

According to the CNN IBN report, Nusli Wadia carried a pistol and 30 cartridges aboard Air India flight 717 on Jan 13.

He was on the way from Mumbai to Dubai. He had not even declared about the pistol to the airline or Customs at Mumbai Airport.

The presence of pistol in his baggage were noticed at the at the Dubai airport only during regular security checks. Following this, Airport authorities detained Wadia and questioned him for three hours.

Later, he was let off when the regional director of Air India intervened in the matter and when he produced license for the arms.

According to the report, Wadia had no time to go home and pack his bags as he was in hurry to take the flight. He had asked his domestic help to pack his bags and send it to the airport directly.

Later, it was being said that Wadia has two similar looking bags in his cupboard. The domestic help had sent the other one that had the revolver and live weapons. Wadia did not check the bags and took the flight.

Well, this is the Wadia’s story. But what had happened to the security people in charge of Mumbai airport? How they missed to check the pistol in Wadia’s bag. It happened despite of terror threat of possible hijacking of any plane from Airports in India.
