The controversial issue of Dera Sacha Sauda has been back in news again. According to the report, Prakash Singh Badal government in Punjab has given the order to to arrest Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
The state government has said that it has done the job according to the court’s order. Earlier, a session court in Bhatinda had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for hurting Sikh sentiments.
On June 20, the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate A L Khichy had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against the Dera chief and stated that the prosecution should take permission from the Punjab government to execute the arrest warrant before July 1.
H S Mattewal, State Advocate General, said that as the court had given the directives it was supposed to be done. It was the state government’s duty and we have done that.
The decision was taken because the Dera chief was not co-operating in the investigations. However, the state government gave the nod to arrest Dera chief just after the Sikh clergy rejected the Dera chief’s latest apology offered by him.
Earlier, Punjab had experienced angry clashes between Sikhs and Dera supporters in the month of May when Sikhs had noticed that Dera chief appeared in an advertisement posed as the 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh.
However, the Dera chief had apologized on two occasion but Sikhs were very angry and they were in no mood to relent.
Now, after the court’s order and the nod by the government, the Punjab police have to arrest Dera chief before July 1. As the Dera headquarter is located at Sirsa in Haryana so, the Punjab police will have to take the help of the Haryana police.
For that, the Punjab police would approach to the Haryana police before July 1 to arrest Dera chief otherwise, Punjab police will have to go to the court for a fresh warrant against him.
