In a shocking incident, four members of a family committed suicide in Bagdi village in Madhya Pradesh. The family members opted to take this extreme step to end their lives when the local police refused to take any action on a rape complaint filed by a family member.

The alleged rape victim Lakshmi Bai and her two children died and Mahesh, head of the family, is still in critical condition. According to Mahesh’s relatives, On Aug 14, when Laxmi was going to work in the fields, a local criminal, Eashwar, nabbed her and raped her.

Later, Mahesh, Laxmi’s husband, tried to file a complaint in the police station against Eashwar , the police reportedly refused to file his complaint alleging rape of her wife. The police refused every time when Mahesh tried to approach them to lodge the complaint. When Mahesh repeatedly tried to approach them, the police finally registered a case of eve teasing and not of rape.

Police arrested Eashwar but he was let out on bail. Mahesh’s relative said that Eashwar allegedly started intimidating Mahesh and family members. Mahesh said in his statement from hospital that he tried to commit suicide because neither the police nor the Panchayat came to save them.

On the other hand, the police said that the incident happened on August 14 and the police registered the case of eve teasing on August 16. The accused is Mahesh’s relative.
