Mulayam Singh Yadav has said that the decision taken by Mayawati government to terminate the services of more than 6,500 constables was illegal. He called the suspension of a 12 IPS officers also as illegal act done by the UP government. Mulayam Singh, former CM of UP, warned that the Mayawati government would have to face serious consequences.
The recruitment was made during the regime of Samajwadi Party government. According to the report, Mulayam Singh had felt that something is going wrong in the manner in which the inquiry was conducted by the state government. He said that the government has taken this decision hurriedly.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, in an important decision, had suspended 10 IPS officers and terminated the services of 6,504 constables. This was being said that Mayawati has taken this decision because those IPS officers were allegedly involved in the police recruitment scandal in the state.
According to the report, the state government has been sent recommendation to the center regarding the suspension of two IPS officers from UP cadre currently on deputation with the Union government.
Earlier in 2006, the erstwhile Mulayam Singh Yadav government had formed 55 boards recruited for the recruitment of constables in state police. The boards later recruited more than 22,000 constables for police and the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).
Mulayam Singh said that because of the steps taken by the state government all of a sudden, the police officers would not accept any additional responsibility in future.
Mulayam expressed some fear that the fired constables may take extreme steps like committing suicide also. He appealed to the sacked constables not to take such extreme steps. He said that the constables would definitely relief from the court.
Mulayam blamed that it was pre-planned act. The government had sent the directives to the inquiry committee to cancel the appointments. The CM office had sent directives to the committee to recommend for suspending certain IPS officers in this case. Mulayam said at the press conference that the probe panel headed by ADG Shailaja Kant Mishra as unconstitutional.
Forming such panel was actually a gross violation of the Supreme Court directives. According to the Supreme Court directives, the officers involved in the recruitment process could not become members of the inquiry committee probing the same recruitments.
