Second MiG-29 crash this year, pilot escapes safe

In the second MiG-29 crash this year, the fighter plane crashed yesterday in the outskirts of Ambala city in Punjab. The MiG-29 is said to be one of the safest jets in the IAF’s fighter range.

The Pilot of the fighter plane Sqn Ldr V Naik was ejected safe from the plane.

This was the 8th crash of MiG-29 fighter plane since its induction in the Indian Air Force some twenty years ago in 1994.

According to the primary reports of the IAF, it happened due to an engine fault. Earlier, on June 8, an MiG-29 was fallen into the sea near the Gujarat coast. The pilots, Wg Cdr A Nautiyal and Sqn Ldr NK Mahal were managed to come out safely.

MiG-29 is always reported from the IAF to counter the public allegations about MiGs as flying coffins. Now, this year this is the second MiG-29 crash and recorded the declining safety records.

In comparison with Mig-23 and Mig-27, MiG-29 has showed better quality and better safety records. But two crashes this year has shaken the confidence. However, MiG-29, as IAF’s frontline air superiority fleet, is about to be put through extensive up gradation.
