
Actor Shabana Azmi is the first Indian recipient of the International Gandhi Peace Prize 2006 for her social work done for poors in India. She will receive the award at the House of Commons in London on October 26. Vanessa Redgrave, British actor and social activist, will present the prestigious award to Azmi.
The Gandhi Peace award committee had met Azmi and found details of her social work during last 20 years. Earlier this year, she got another award at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The earlier recipients of this award are the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu.
