Interestingly, It is being said that a bus conductor at a bus stop or a shop owner at a mall will have the authority to impose fines on smokers disobey the ban on smoking in public place.

The ministry has planned to implement the new project in Delhi and Mumbai at first. According to a senior official of health ministry, smoking is not permissible in public places or work places. The government has been banned smoking in public places way beck in May 2004. But the real problem is how to implement the ban effectively.

He said that the government is looking for an effective mechanism to implement the ban in an effective manner. Now, the new penalty mechanism would begin in another month in Delhi and Mumbai. For this, the government would need a lot of volunteers such as teachers, principal, bus conductors, shop owners.
