The ministry has planned to implement the new project in Delhi and Mumbai at first. According to a senior official of health ministry, smoking is not permissible in public places or work places. The government has been banned smoking in public places way beck in May 2004. But the real problem is how to implement the ban effectively.
He said that the government is looking for an effective mechanism to implement the ban in an effective manner. Now, the new penalty mechanism would begin in another month in Delhi and Mumbai. For this, the government would need a lot of volunteers such as teachers, principal, bus conductors, shop owners.
Minister of Health A Ramadoss said on this matter that smoking couldn’t be tolerated at work places. Employees, working anywhere, should have the right to keep them away from passive smoking.
