Congress president Sonia Gandhi is taking classes of her own party MPs in batches and teaching them how to vote and how to vote carefully in the vice-presidential election. Her strict message is clear to the party MPs as they should vote carefully in the VP elections. She has asked them to make sure that they would not cast a dud ballot in this election.
According to the report, as many as five Congress MPs had cast invalid ballots during the voting for UPA presidential candidate Pratibha Patil. These MPs had marked their choice against the second column instead of the first and their votes had gone invalid. Among the total of nine invalid votes, five invalid votes were of Congress MPs.
Now, she has asked the party MPs that she would not tolerate the repeat performance of invalid voting this time. The most exasperating part of the story was that she had personally briefed the party MPs in separate classes that how to tick their choices in the ballot paper.
On Wednesday, Sonia met Congress MPs from Karnataka, Gujarat and Delhi including the presence of general secretaries in-charge of all these states. The MPs know better that they would miss the Sonia classes at their own peril. The party MPs are taking the classes with required industriousness and somberness. In the vice-presidential election, Congress is supporting Left choice, former Minority Commission chairman Hamid Ansari.
