Stop vehicle movements over Bailey bridge cut off Tripura, Mizoram from rest of the nation

The vehicle movements national Highway-44, that generally considers as the lifeline for the land-locked northeastern state, Tripura, has been disturbed near Assam-Meghalaya border. The vehicle movements have been banned on this highway from 166-foot long Bailey bridge at Malidor in Assam-Meghalaya border since yesterday.

The bridge is in bad condition and crossing vehicles over the bridge could be dangerous. So, the Border Road Task Force (BRTF) has banned all vehicles movements from plying over the damaged bridge till the repair work completes. Now, Tripura, Mizoram and Barak valley of Assam has been cut off from the rest of the country.

According to the report, thousands of trucks carrying essential commodities are stranded on both sides of the bridge. The report said that it would take more than 10 days to repair the damages in the bridge to avoid any danger for the vehicles plying over the bridge.

A K Debbarma, who is the deputy secretary of Tripura’s transport department, has announced that the bridge was in bad condition and the state government was aware about that. He also said that all the necessary steps is being taken to open the road as early as possible.
