I read with interest your item on treating stroke as a medical emergency I am currently constructing a diary of the past 39 days of treatment received by my mother, and a constant struggle to access to diagnosis and treatment. Also I am in correspondence with the locum G P who attended my mother 9 hours prior to her stroke who failed to make a diagnosis who said her inability to move from bed to commode was a social issue not a medical issue. This is outrageous, this was obviously a mini stroke prior to the massive stroke which followed. My mother having previously suffered a stroke should have been flagged as having the potential for another stroke. I agree all attending G P s must be aware that this is an emergency. Unfortunately the treatment received has been slow and not positive. and this could have been avoided had the diagnosis been made sooner.
