I had wriiten here an article on student politics on July 20 under Whither Student Politics? that was on the nature of present day student leaders. The student politics, as appearing in the different Universities of India, are becoming the short cut way to enter in the active politics.
Now, the habitual anger, lack of patience and use of violenct means have become the characteristics of student leaders. They have no honour remain for their teachers, institutions and not even for the country’s culture too. At least the Ujjain killing of a professor by some of student leaders says this.
India has produced numbers of great leaders who served and currently serving the country. Even they have become shocked by the rising violence in student politics that killed a professor in Ujjain.
Now, student politics does mean the use of threats, violence and even brutal killing for getting short cut popularity. It is nothing but the representation of the rising consumerism and material desires in the society.
The former chief election commissioner JM Lyngdoh had already made a proposal to take a close look on student’s elections in different universities. But he did not get support from the political parties. It is very much clear that political parties do have some specific interest in student politics too.
These folks of students’ political group are giving certainly a bad indication of the quality of political leadership in the country, which we are going to have in coming days.
