Tata group had opened its first office in Britain some 100 years ago in 1907. Now, the Indian multinational company has covered a long distance and achieved a momentous increase in its employee strength in UK. The Tata group has expanded its operations and bought more firms in Britain in past two years.
According to a report, Tata group has the workforce of about 30,000 employees of Indian origin in UK. Britain has become a new home to the largest workforce of any Indian business house across the world. The number of employees account a little less than 10 per cent of Tata group’s total workforce of 3,30,000 employees across the world.
S A Hasan, Managing Director of Tata’s UK subsidiary Tata Ltd, said:
Initially, when Tata group had started the business in UK some 100 years ago in 1907, it was like a window office to the world business of the group.
Now, the group is successfully tackling issues such as procurement and logistics. At present, the Tata group is a 14-company strong group with a strong workforce of 30,000 employees.
Tata’s acquisition of steel maker Corus for about $13 billion has also created more than 66,000 job opportunities in Britain. Hasan said:
Tata group in UK feels proud to say that the group is the largest Indian employer in the UK.
Tata group has expanded its business in the European continent by adopting the policies of mergers and acquisitions, particularly in the British market. The acquisition of Corus has definitely led the Tata group to a significant surge in the number of employees.
