Terrorism haunts Hyderabad

India’s hi-tech city, the twin city of Hyderabad, has been troubled by the repeated terror strikes occurred this year. The series of terror attacks have left the people of Hyderabad haunted by fears.

This is also being said that the terrorists are using the tactics to strike in the city to ruin the Hindu-Muslim harmony. They are targeting the city’s growing prosperity due to the development of IT and software industry in the state, particularly in the city.

BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya, has said that terrorists have nothing to do with development and with the development of IT and software industry. They have a single aim to divide the country on religion basis.

At least 6.5 million people, 38 per cent of them are Muslim, live in Hyderabad, the high-tech hub also known as Cyberabad. This week, the hi-tech city is going to host a major global space conference. At least 2,000 delegates are likely to attend the conference.

On the other hand, the terrorists and the suspected Islamic militants have tried hard to ruin the peace and harmony in the city by attacking twice this year. In May, a bomb blast occurred at the Mecca Masjid in which 11 people were killed. Again on August 25, 43 people died in twin blasts occurred in Lumbinin park and outside of Gokul Chat Bhandar.

Some other media reports have also claimed that the terrorists have started using the sea-route to enter into Indian territory. They are targeting South Indian cities to restrict the development process in these cities. Hyderabad is prospering with a lot of IT companies coming in the city. That is why it has become a target for terrorism.

The administration is working hard to maintain the security check-ups in the twin city. More than 23,000 police personnel have been deployed since mid-September for the month of Ramadan and Hindu festival for Lord Ganesh.

B Reddenna, police chief in the historic Old Town said:

As it is, it’s not tense between the two communities. But the smallest incident may cause the greatest trouble. The terrorists plan to disturb the communal harmony and to create suspicion between religions. For the time being, there is no tension, but suspicion is there.

The two cities are home to India’s top IT and software companies such as Infosys, Wipro and Satyam. Apart from this, the city also hosts foreign companies such as US giants Microsoft, IBM, Dell, Cisco and France’s Capgemini.
