
The year 2006 was excellent for the job seekers in the IT sector as the top five software firms added more than 23,200 professionals to their payrolls.
The companies recruited the employees in the last quarter of 2006. With this new recruitment festival in the end of 2006 the total headcount have gone up to touch the 2,92,000 mark.
The Five of the Indian IT firms such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Satyam and HCL Technologies have recruited a total of 23,265 people in the three-month period that ended on December 31.
Among these five firms, TCS has recruited the highest number of professionals at 7,835. The collective employee strength of the country’s five top most firms touched to 2,91,830.
All the five companies have showed impressive financial results for the quarter ended December 30 also. However, TCS has continuously maintained the lowest attrition rate with 10.8 per cent rate.

The total employee strength of the company has gone up to 83,500 with professionals coming from 60 different countries.
On the other hand, Infosys’ professional’s strength has been reached to 69,432 in December 2006. In this quarter, Infosys recruited 6,092 employees at a gross level.
However, the attrition rate has showed a rise to 13.5 per cent compared to 12.9 per cent last quarter.
The company is planning to hire 5,000 more professional in the next quarter. The further recruitment process by the top five firms in the next quarter is definitely going take the total headcount to cross the 3-lakh professional mark.
