
India’s demand for place in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) representing the developing world has received a big boost when Britain said in a statement that it wanted India in the UNSC in keeping with current situation of world.
Britain’s Minister of State in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Kim Howells said that the United Kingdom actually wants India in the expanded Security Council. If the UNSC wants to reflect what the world should be, then the inclusion of India is must.
Howells described India as a rising giant on every front and this will be difficult for the UN body to keep India away from the Security Council. India has enormous potential to built its human resources at a great extent and the UN should include India in its expanding process.
He said further that UN needs a reform and Britain will continue to work for UN reforms. Earlier, Britain had objected the inclusion of Zimbabwe in the UN Commission on Sustainable Development by claiming that there was no democracy in Zimbabwe under the Robert Mugabe rule. Howells said further that UK is committed to help India to counter the terrorist activities in Indian territory.
Earlier, In a practice to push stronger for permanent membership of UN Security Council, India and the three other members of G-4 such as Brazil, Germany and Japan had decided to sent a modified resolution to UN.
