
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has announced today the much-awaited reduction in national roaming charges.
According to TRAI, the national roaming charges have been slashed by 22 to 56 per cent. The new charges will come into effect from February 15.
The TRAI official said that there would be a single charge system for roaming from now on. The charges will be such as Rs 1.40 for outgoing local calls, Rs 2.40 for outgoing STD calls and Rs 1.70 for incoming calls anywhere in India.
With these new regulations, the consumer would see more than 10 per cent reduction in their mobile bills. Earlier, the Cellular Operators Association had opposed the TRAI’s move to reduce the roaming charges.
Further, the regulatory body said has that TRAI wants to do away with the Rs 50 rental and 15 per cent surcharge in addition to a pruning of airtime charges.
