Treat 20 rural patients per year: Kalam to medical fraternity

Doctors are like God for the patients and their family members because they give a new lease of life for those patients. The President of India Dr.

APJ Abdul Kalam has advised the doctors fraternity to understand the importance of the medical profession. He has promoted a 5-point vision for the medical fraternity to serve the society at large.

Kalam was address at the convocation ceremonial of the B D Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak, Haryana. He asked doctors to treat at least 20 patients with rural background per year.

He said:

Doctors should treat at least 20 rural patients a year at minimum rates by going to the rural areas. The doctors should take up rural health care as a challenge

He advised the doctors to improve the standard of rural healthcare that is necessary for the better healthcare for those poor patients who have no facilities to get medical help. Kalam said that doctors should give their time to patients who cannot afford medicare.

He said:

The primary health centres (PHCs) and other health centres must be revamped and improved in Haryana and other parts of the country.

During his address to post graduate doctors at the convocation function, Kalam said that the medical fraternity should also concentrate on the need of medical research in the country.

The research teams should work hard to develop indigenous medicines and equipment to fight with the deadly diseases such as HIV/AIDS. He told the doctors there that some of them might take part in research, development and use of vaccines against HIV, malaria and even against cardiac diseases.
