TRS ministers remembered 'Telangana' after 2 1/2 years, resigned from Union cabinet

On March 4, 2004 the then APCC chief D. Srinivas, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao had announced at a press conference in Hyderabad that high command has passed the resolution to form another States Reorganization Commission to solve Telangana issue.

TRS had decided to be a part of government at the center when Congress led UPA alliance had formed the government. Now, TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao and A. Narendra have resigned from the government when TRS got no good response from the Congress Party on the Telangana issue.

But, Chandrasekhar Rao has taken almost two-and-half years to take the strong step. He will likely to join hands with Telangana Sadhana Samithi launched by BJP leader Narendra.

K. Chandrasekhara Rao floated the TRS after resigning from the post of deputy speaker and his party TDP on April 27, 2001. He took initiative to start campaigning for separate Telangana. The pressure from party men has finally led to the final move to quit the Union Cabinet.

The TRS had good time during its honeymoon in the UPA alliance. It acquired a wonderful structure, ‘Telangana Bhavan’, as its headquarters in Hyderabad, but the core issue of fighting for the separate Telangana state remained unresolved till date.

The other side of the story is that Congress looks in comfortable position at the center. But, the bigger question is that, is Congress failing to maintain the coalition culture of governance? How the congress did not act or ignore its earlier made promise to TRS for creating the separate state ‘Telangana’.

Now, with this changing political scenario, BJP will try everything to get advantage of the situation in center as well as in Andhra Pradesh politics. Andhra Pradesh is likely to face the separate state movement again in a different mode now.
