UMA Khurana, who suffered mental agony for almost two months after becoming the victim of fake sting operation aired by Live India, has filed a criminal defamation suit against Live India, its CEO Sudhir Choudhary and the reporter Prakash Singh. Live India’s reporter had managed a fake sting operation showing Khurana forcing schoolgirls into prostitution.
According to the report, Uma Khurana has said in her complaint that the news channel`s CEO Sudhir Chaudhary and its reporter Prakash Singh were aware about the fake sting. They were also aware that the telecast of the fake sting operation would defame her in the eyes of the public. Uma has also accused both, Sudhir Choudhary and Prakash Singh, of hatching a criminal conspiracy against her.
Uma’s counsel, Amit Kumar, filed the complaint before Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Jindal and urged that she was subjected to varying kinds of mental agony and humiliation. She earned a bad name in the society because of these two persons. They have the sole purpose of harming her reputation in society.
Later, Live India’ became first 24×7 news channel to be banned in India. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry imposed a ban on the TV news channel ‘Live India’ for a month. The news channel was under fire for showing the fake sting operation and defamed Uma Khurana by calling her a kingpin of sex racket running in a school in Delhi. The I&B ministry has taken this decision because of the strong public reaction against the news channel and the strong stance taken by Delhi High Court against the news channel.
