US plays 'balance of power' game in the sub-continent

The United States has accredited Pakistan as a ‘major non-NATO ally,’ Pakistan has got fleet of F-16 fighter jets by the Bush administration.

India reacted but not sharply. Actually, I think that the Government of India is in dilemma on the level of showing reaction to this F-16 contract. Not more than one month before, the US congress committee has passed the nuclear bill and forwarded to Senate for further debate. India has welcomed the decision that was much awaited.

The US administration is playing balance of power game in South-Asian subcontinent. At one side Tthe bush administration trying to grant the status of nuclear country to India and on the other side giving the status of major ally and the fleet of eighteen F-16 fighters to Pakistan that valued USD five billion.

At the same time, there is a space for India to react and try to stop the deal because the US Congress has thirty days to reject the sale. However, the process has hardly ever done so on such major arms deals.
