In India, the government is feeling the heat of online media. The UPA government has recognized the potential what online medium has vested in it. Now, it had decided to modernize the 140-year-old 'Press and Registration of Books Act', enacted during the British rule. This is being done to bring the new media (online news portals and web editions of newspapers) within the sphere of the act.

Correct, and let me add one more thing here, the government is ready to censor the internet by using Broadcasting Services Regulation Bill, 2007 because the Internet is also being used for broadcasting. Any online activity will be covered within the sphere of this broadcast bill. I guess big media houses are behind the introduction of the Bill to control the growing influence of online media.
