
Sonia Gandhi said for the first time on the Presidential election that she was keen on Pratibha Patil becoming as the first woman President of India. She accepted that the vision of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi actually inspired her to increase women’s participation in all fields of life.

Sonia was on 3-day visit of Rae Bareli and Amethi started on Monday. on Monday, she was on visit to Rae Barely that happens to be her Parliamentary constituency.
During the visit she attended a felicitation program organised by the local residents and said that she is proud of being a member of the Gandhi family. She said later that she has learnt a lot from Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
She said during her speech that people know well Rajiv Gandhi was less interested in politics. However, he joined it for the country and dreamt of taking India to the 21st century.
He knew well that it would be impossible without the direct involvement of women in politics and other walks of life. Now, his dream has been fulfilled and India has its first woman President in office now.
