World knows India for Gandhi, Taj Mahal, poverty: BBC

India is better known as the country of Mahatma Gandhi who taught the teachings and importance of the concept of non-violence to the world. India is know as the country of Taj Mahal, the historical marble monument made by Shahjehan in the memory of his wife Mumtaj.

At the same time, India is also known as the country where millions of people still living under India poverty line. Crores of people are facing problems of poverty poor in this country.

BBC conducted a survey on the socio-economic perception on India and Pakistan after 60 years of independence from the British rule. BBC found that people across the world know India as the place of Gandhi, Taj and poverty.

At the same time, when the same respondent in the survey think of Pakistan they think of nuclear, poverty and cricket. Pakistan is better known as the country with poverty, nuclear power, and the obsession with cricket.

Surprisingly, people associated Pakistan the nuclear power. That is really good news for Pakistani diplomats that people associate the country with nuclear power, does not matter in good sense or in threat sense.

BBC conducted the survey in at least 20 countries in association with an international research company Synovate. The survey was conducted in 20 countries of Europe, North and South America, Asia Pacific and Australia. Some 12,670 people responded to the survey and said about their perceptions about India and Pakistan.

BBC said:

It was conducted to coincide with the celebration surrounding India and Pakistan’s 60th year of independence from British colonial rule.

BBC found an interesting thing in the survey that for French, Spaniards, Italians and Danes India is at the top place among the poor countries in the world. They thought India topped in poverty on the planet.

At the same time, Eastern people such as Singaporeans, Japanese and Hong Kong nationals thought that India is a modern nation and going great with greater pace of development technology.

The respondent from UK, USA and Australians voted for India for great movies made by Bollywood. Performance showed in the game of cricket and the outsourcing industry it has. They ranked India at 10th place from a global economic.

Dezma de Melo, senior manager research, BBC World, India, said: India’s economic development is being talked across the world. It’s interesting to see how people abroad perceive us. BBC said further that despite the leading lady in Indian politics, Congress president Sonia Gandhi originally from Italy, the Italian people surprisingly downed India as low as 100 in ranking from economic standpoint.
