The Uttar Pradesh government has given the Yash Bharati Samman to Abhishek Bachchan. The award is the state’s highest award in the field of literature and culture. Abhisek is the fourth person in the Bachchan family who got this award.
Before him, Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan have already been conferred the award. The award comprises Rs 5 lakh and a citation. Abhisek donated the money to UP state development trust.
Now, the award has become center-point of a political debate. Other parties’ leaders have blamed Mulayam Singh to use this prestigious award for political gain. They said that it would be better if the government had selected some poet, artist or writer from the state for this award.
However, Abhishek, himself, has said that he is not suitable to get this award. Nine other persons were also awarded at the function.
By giving the award to Abhisek Bachchan, how Mulayam Singh and his party will score in the coming Assembly election, is a big question. I am not able to understand why the protests are going on in UP against the decision taken by UP government.
Abhishek’s roots are in UP. Where is the need to protest against the actor even he did not ask for the award. Why Indians become happy when the government of India gives honour to Amartaya Sen, Laxmi Mittal, Swaraj Paul and many other NRIs who do not live in India. Its only because they are doing well and they have roots in India.
So, what is wrong if UP government decided to honour Abhisek Bachchan, who finally showed his critics that he is better than any other actor of his generation in Bollywood.

Secondly, why we put politics in each and every matter. If abhishek is among the other 10 people who got the Yash Bharti Samman, there is no need to make this issue political.
”By giving the award to Abhisek Bachchan, how Mulayam Singh and his party will score in the coming Assembly election, is a big question.”
Finally, dear Suman, I am not comparing Amartya Sen or any body with Junior B. Read this carefully, Those personalities are doing great in their fields of work and Junior B is doing fine in his field. After all years long criticism, finally he has showed that he has the germs of being a good actor. If UP government decided to honour him on the ground that he is from UP origanlly, what is wrong in this. Amartya Sen does not live in India but he has roots in India, so we become happy if he achieves anything great and said proudly, ”He Is An Indian”. Then what is wrong in it. Don’t be political all the time.
As so far Abhishek Bachchan is concerned, he at least pays Income Tax to India and very much embedded into Indian economy.
I want to tell you Kanchan, the award goes for literary works and cultural works both. And cinema is the strongest part of cultural development in India.
Moreover, I think that Abhisek showed more humbleness when he said that he does not deserve the award. He said this not because he haven’t done anything un-acknowledgeable for this award but he said it because he finds himself not suitable in the list where other big personalities are his grandfather and parents too.
As far as Yash Bharti Samman of UP is concerned, the CM Mulayam singh knows better on what ground he found Abhishek fit for the award. It is his power. Any protest and controversy will defame the importance of the award. It is not necessary that only icons get even the state level award. No body knows the names of other ten people who got this award with Junior B even in UP.
I THINK!! He truly said dat he really doesn’t dsrv dat award….Got itttttttt????
Dis is probable dat after AB his wife (if there b any, in future) will b the nominee to get dis award …!!
And the issue is not about the NRIs or an Indian citizen who is paying taxes, the question is about the “WORTH of the Yash Bharati Samman”. Was Abhishek really fit for the award???
I think he should better return the award and think of getting nominated for the Yash Bharati Samman after somewhat around 5 years when we can really say that HE DESERVED THAT but at the moment it’s nothing but just politics.
The second issue bubbled out in one of these comments that states, we Indians do have a problem that we praise those people who are not Indian but recoils when it comes to venerate Indian citizens. So here, I would like to say that to give prize by getting motivated by such things would not be a commonsensical way. And if somebody thinks this is right then don’t you think there are many prodigious personalities that India wraps in herself, should also be given this prize. The biggest issue is that by giving this prize of Junior Bachchan Mulayam government has not only spurned at the dignity of this prize but has also tried to obnubilate sacrifices of those people who really deserve this prize.
i hate to tell you but the awards are given for some note able contribution by some individuals in their field of work but i do not remember abhishek bachan doing anything noteable. ya he takes crores of RS for teh movies he sign and he is the sun of a superstar but then do these qualifications make him worthy of that award. NO!!
he donated the amount because it was just too less for him and will help him in Income tax rebate at the end of the year. the award was given because Mulayam is in tight spot in UP and wants bachans to help so that he can scramble home for another term in UP. since all the bachans had been awarded only Abhishek was left.
next year if he remains a CM(mulayam) he will give this award to Shweta (Daughter) for her outstanding contributions to her Domestic life
these awards were politically motivated at the best and the present government had much to gain from bachan\’s so they are keeping them in good humor
Glory Pronunciation glawr-ee, glohr-ee. In the above context it is a noun.
Relevant definations:
1. very great praise, honour, or distinction bestowed by common consent; renown: to win glory on the field of battle.
2. something that is a source of honour, fame, or admiration; a distinguished ornament or an object of pride: a sonnet that is one of the glories of English poetry.
Hope that clears the air now.
The Yash Bharati Samman is awarded to those individuals who must be belonging to Uttar Pradesh and have contributed something significant to bring laurels to the State.

Why din\’t you people (critics of Abhishek) raise your voice when Mohd. Kaif (this year) and Rajpal Yadav (earlier) were selected for this Samman.
Go through the list published above. Please get out of the imperialistic mentality. Oscars are meant for foreigners and their movies. We should feel proud for our awards only.

Have a look on the list given above and now decide, can you say that Abhishek deserves less than Mohd. Kaif, Rajpal Yadav, Wrestlers Jagdish Kali Raman, Talukdar Yadav, Shaukildra Tomar and Sportsman Rajiv Tomar. Think logically.

Profound thinking should have some reasoning behind, then its looks fine. I have asked earlier and asking again that would you will vote for any leader if the leader supports one of you favorite star, If you will do, this will be the biggest irony of our democracy. Your second part of comment is much better, I do agree with you. But I wrote earlier that in India, every award ceremony comes with great criticism, I think you would support this.
Ashutosh
I think you will get the details about the contribution making by Junior B. As far as being a son of superstar makes him celebrity, I think you are not right here. After 5 years of junior B’s presence in the bollywood, I don’t think people go and watch his movies only becoz he is the son of Big B. People are not so fools.
It would not be entirely correct if I said that awarding Abhishek Bachchan did not have any political undertone. We all know the involvement of the Bachchan family with SP, the ruling party of UP.
However, as Pratyush has pointed out, he in fact deserves it much more than previous recipients of the Yash Bharati award.

I want to ask Mr. Chief Minister that you do you have any other work besides awarding the Bachan Family. Every day your government is heading towards the grave. And forthcoming election will prove this.
I also don’t agree with Prtush , compares Abhishek with Amartaya Sen, a Nobel prize winner. We feel proud when we talk about these doyens-Amartaya Sen, Laxmi Mittal, Swaraj Paul. I don’t know what you see in Abhisek?
Secondly, why we put politics in each and every matter. If abhishek is among the other 10 people who got the Yash Bharti Samman, there is no need to make this issue political.
